Course outline

Duration:

3 Days – 4 Days

Knowledge development:
This phase teaches you the fundamental principles and safety procedures of scuba diving through five sections of theory.
Materials: You can learn through the PADI Open Water Diver Manual, or via PADI eLearning, which allows you to study online or offline at your own pace before or during your vacation.

Assessment:
Each chapter has a knowledge review, followed by quizzes and a final exam to ensure your understanding of the material.
Confined water dives.

You will practice essential scuba skills in a pool or a confined body of water with pool-like conditions.
Skill practice:
This phase covers buoyancy control, mask and regulator clearing, and other emergency techniques.

Water skills assessment:
You will be required to perform a 200-meter swim (or 300-meter swim with mask, fins, and snorkel) and float for 10 minutes.

Open water dives:
After mastering the confined water skills, you will complete four open water dives, typically over two days.

Dive progression:
The dives build on your learned skills in a real-world environment, with each dive allowing for more exploration time.
Exploration: You will explore underwater sites with your instructor, applying the skills you have practiced.

Course prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver course, you must meet the following requirements:
Age: Be at least 10 years old. Divers under 15 receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification, with depth limits based on age.
Health: Fill out a medical questionnaire. Depending on your answers, a doctor’s clearance may be required.
Swimming ability: You must be able to swim and comfortably float in water.
